Hi everyone,
I’ve been struggling recently with a repeatedly-sprained wrist that’s really stopped me drawing or colouring, so I’ve had to postpone some other projects and leave another unfinished for now. As I’m back to work imminently, I really wanted to get something done at least before I get drowned in new-term bumpf and MARKING 🤮.
New Video: an introduction to Similes – the Homeric Simile and how it works
This video on Similes is something I’d actually planned to in May… 2020 ! I’d read Prof. Eliza G. Wilkins’ ‘A Classification of the Similes of Homer’ from 1920 (read it here on JSTOR www.jstor.org/stable/4387966, part. 2: https://jstor.org/stable/4387975) and been overwhelmed by how cool the list of all the Homeric similes was, and what I could potentially do with that information. I’ve boiled it down to some not-overwhelming stats for this video, that may help students with discussing the themes of the poems. it should also be helpful to English students looking to learn more about the simile, and as ever, it’s classroom-appropriate👌

Prof. Eliza G. Wilkins, the American Classicist and Historian of Philosophy, whose biography is woefully short and devoid of picture, has been a great inspiration to me with her classifications of similes. I drew this to say thank you to her!

GMC comic viewer questionnaire
My GCSE Classical Civilisation resources have hit 100+ users, and I’ve been discovering who uses them and where, and seeing to my utter delight how they’ve helped the spread of Classics in schools! Now I’d like to do the same for my Comix.
I would really appreciate you spending two minutes clicking some boxes to help me find out how and where my comix are used – just click here to take part in the questionnaire!
Thanks so much!
Jenks.
