Medusa gets rather a bad rep, but it’s only later myths (recorded by Ovid) that suggest she was turned into the snake-headed creature by a vengeful Artemis/Diana, taking revenge for… Medusa being raped by Poseidon/Neptune in Artemis’ temple. Yeah. That’s never sat right with me. So my Medusa is the traditional member of the three winged Gorgon sisters (as pictured on this Siana cup), but with added snakiness as to be recognisable. Medusa’s name also has links to the word for ‘protector’, so my Medusa has got a bit of a guardian thing going on…. hiiii-YA!
