Illustration notes:
I’ve based Heracles’ costume in the Labours illustrations on the Group E painters’ illustrations of clothing on Archaic pottery: he wears the lion skin, a tunic with borders, and a wide belt with studs. The lion skin crosses over at the waist and is held in place by the belt. It looks a lot more comfortable than completing the labours naked, as he is often depicted in the metopes on which the illustrations are based!
